A Stately Bird!

Here is a lovely bird that is the state bird of seven states - Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, North Carolina, Ohio, Virginia and West Virginia all claim the cardinal as their state bird.  This pair was seen at a rest stop in South Carolina - someone obviously didn't give them the memo!

First the Mister was in the tree...
Then he decided to come down and keep an eye on the Missus...

She looks to see what he needs...

And, seeing no immediate problem...

She calmly returns to eating...

I love that we have them all year long. The couples are fun to watch. I've even seen them 'kissing' in the trees. :)
Cute photo essay!

Cardinals are so much fun to have around and the females are just as beautiful as the males. Love your photos, Linda!

Beautiful birds, which we don;t have here in Australia, so it's good to see them virtually...
