How Could I Forget?

Last week I totally forgot Ruby Tuesday!  It sure doesn't take long to get out of a habit!  I remembered on Thursday, and of course, it was a little late to try to pretend I had not remembered on Tuesday...

So, without further ado, here is my contribution to Ruby Tuesday.

I have always done a lot of sewing - and in the last few years, most of mine has been done to assist the charitable work my Mom does in Florida.  This organizer is for the craft show in November - we have several tables there every year, and the money from the sale of the items we make goes to purchase fabrics, notions, etc. for the many hand-tied lap quilts, walker bags, children's clothing items and hundreds of other things that are distributed throughout her county and beyond.  She is truly a remarkable lady - with an incredible amount of energy for someone who is 81 years young!

SOOC Sunday Flowers

Here's what's in bloom in my garden this week - roses and trumpet lilies.  There are a few other things in bloom, but nothing to write home about.

Borrowed Reflections

You have to love it when your hubby takes photos for you!  He was on vacation, visiting family in Missouri, while I was in Florida, visiting my mother. I will be sharing some of his photos over the next week or so - and I promised him I would give him credit for the photos when I used them!

These were taken at the Lantern Festival in St. Louis.  I think they are gorgeous reflections!

Stormy Weather

Traveling back from Homestead, FL last week, I watched this storm off to the west.  Later, I heard that Tampa got hammered with a pretty severe storm.

It was interesting to watch the rain from the highway - it was a visible wall.

I Can Land This Thing...Really I Can!

Waiting for the Tall Ships to arrive last month, I was entertained by the birds.  Their landings were not always graceful!
Watch out below!
I can do it...

Abort landing...abort landing!

I'm flying!
Tail up, tail up!
Perfect 2 point landing!
Keep your head up, I said!
There, much better!  I told you I could do it!

Sunday SOOC

A visit to the Fruit and Spice Park in Homestead, FL was a real treat.  There are so many tropical fruits and nuts and spices - and we were fortunate enough to arrive just as a guided tour was starting.  Unfortunately, they have no literature telling you all the trees that are there, and I had no way to take notes - just photos!    The fruit and nuts will wait for another day, but I wanted to share some of the gorgeous blooms.  If there is anyone who knows what these are, I welcome the help!  I do know that the red bloom is a type of ginger.

Even a visit to their website yields no identification - just photos.  Our guide was extremely knowledgeable, and I was really wishing I had brought something to take notes to go with the photos!  We were able to taste several fruits, and smell many leaves - including the leaf that is used in the making of Chanel No. 5 for the ladies and the one that makes Bay Rum for the men!  There is a leaf that is used as sandpaper, and we were all handed citronella leaves to wave around to keep the bugs off.  If you are ever in southern Florida, you can't go wrong with a visit to this park!

Sabbatical

Starting today, I am taking a break from blogging.  I am boarding a train to visit my mother in Florida and plan to spend my time doing fun things with her.  I will be back again, online, on the 18th.  Have a wonderful Sunday, and a great week!  See you later!

Reflecting on the Past

While on a visit to the Marine Corps Museum in Triangle, VA, we saw the original flag that was raised on Iwo Jima during World War II.  Flash photography is not allowed because of the possibility of damage to what remains.  When I saw the photo, I was thrilled to see the big star reflected in the glass.

Location, Location, Location!

First 2 photos taken simultaneously - 1st one by me, 2nd one by hubby (same general area, different location and elevation)

Same thing here - 1st is mine, 2nd is his.  I think he picked the better spot!  He walked to the beachfront, and I opted to stay on the observation walk.
