This little finch was enjoying a meal at our feeder last summer.
These two were spotted on Sanibel Island, Florida. This one was in the J.L.Ding Darling Wildlife Refuge. He is a juvenile Yellow-Crowned Night Heron. Very intent on lunch at this moment!
This pelican was waiting for the fisherman who belonged to this rod...just waiting for him to catch something! They are very quick and you have to watch them closely. They will grab the fish you catch before you can get it off the hook! When we were fishing in Key West, we encountered several of these birds st the local fishing spot. They know they can probably snatch lunch there!
This little bird was perched on top of the flagpole one morning in Florida. It was singing and chirping for over 30 minutes from that lofty perch!
I am not sure of the type of bird - I suspected some type of sparrow because of the song, but I couldn't get close enough and she refused to give me a full front view! Every time I walked around the pole to try to get a better look, she turned too.

Nice photographs Linda! I've never seen a Yellow-crowned Night Heron with its neck extended like that, very cool! And the bird in the last photo is a Northern Mockingbird. The white patch below the wrist and the long tail with white patches are good field marks. Plus they are the best songsters around. The males are known for having a repertoire of over 200 songs and singing from high perches!
Beautiful bird captures, Linda. Love the goldfinch -- he's got his spring colors on! :)
I've seen Great Blue Herons, but never a Yellow-Crowned Night. what a beautiful bird and an excellent capture. our high today is forecast to be 86 - lots and lots of songbirds have returned to the branches. things are astir. wishing you a happy spring.
Great shots, Linda! I love the heron. And is that pelican fishing? LOL!
Lovely variety of birds, Linda!
I love all of your pictures!
happy WW!
Wonderful birds to see... many thanks for sharing.
Hi Linda,
I don't think I realized you had this blog. :)
The goldfinch are appearing here as well. It's good to see them again.
The pelican knows how to fish but I guess he would rather take a handout!
Beautiful birds and great photos. The Night heron is one of my favorites. Thanks for sharing, have a great day!
More Ding Darling! Gosh, we've been seeing some great photos from there this week! Yours are no exception!
